“On my 40th birthday, my gift to my future self is to live a life of no regrets. (Mistakes, yes, of course – but no regrets.) That is my promise to my future self.”
Hi, Thanks so much for stopping by. Grab a chai (or a glass of sauv blanc – whatever works for you), pull up a chair and we can get to know each other.
Life’s full of experiences, right? There’s so much going on all the time pulling you from one thing to the next. I get it, my life’s like that too. In between being a mum (to a very busy 2yo boy!), a wife, and a business owner, I also luurve drooling over glossy fashion and interior magazines, I consider myself a closet-foodie (since I stalk so many Instagram food bloggers), and generally I just love milking life! I’m constantly on the go – as I know you are too – so I’m a huge fan of life hacks and finding ways to optimise life.
I’m in the process of bringing an incredible new digital appliance company to market that WILL change the face of kitchens e-v-e-r-y-where. It’s exciting stuff and I’m literally busting to share everything with you including sneak peeks as we get closer to launching (you can check it all out on the CUSP page).
Getting to know Michelle Carden
For my first post, I wanted to cram my life into a few paragraphs so you can get to know me and where I get my kicks.
Travel is my thing. I got my love of exploring from my parents. When my sisters and I were growing up we travelled A LOT, not fancy overseas first-class holidays, but ‘5-star camping’ in various parts of Australia. It gave us amazing learning experiences that were way beyond the stuff found in textbooks. Since my early 20s I’ve now visited 55 countries in my 40 years, and I attempt to travel to a new country every year.
When I was at Uni I was lucky to be mentored by a successful business owner in Melbourne. I grabbed the opportunity and threw myself in head first, coming away with new skills and confidence, as well as experience working for a global brand. It led to a HR job in London – a role that jump-started my career and let me follow my itchy feet.
I’ve been lucky enough to see jaw-dropping scenery while trekking up to base camp in Nepal, experience the craziness of full moon parties in Thailand and I lived life on the open road in Europe for six months in a van known as WACKO (the sides of the van were painted with scenes that were not considered appropriate by the Monaco police, who ordered the van – and us! – out of the country). It hasn’t all been glamorous – in fact most of it wasn’t glamorous at all. But it has been a ton of fun.
When I landed back in Australia, a friend suggested I renovate houses as a way to build my travel fund back up. I gave it a go and bought my first house. When another friend suggested the mining boom in Perth meant there were great opportunities in HR and real estate investment, I hopped on a plane and set up my own recruitment consultancy soon after. My intention was to create a passive income to fund my travels – I definitely didn’t want to be tied to a desk job.
Within two weeks of arriving in Perth in 2002, life threw me a curve ball – I met my now husband, Craig. Craig and I went on to build our real estate portfolio and set up the Aspire Group, which gave us all the excitement and travel we could want. We eloped to Italy in 2007, via a civil ceremony in Ravello’s Municipio conducted by the town’s Mayor, and then had a simple, romantic wedding ceremony on the grass of Hotel Caruso.
We sold the Aspire Group in 2009, and in early 2010, Craig set up a new international funds management business and we took off on a global adventure where we lived in London and Hong Kong – which is where our little guru, Ethan, was conceived. (That’s a whole other learning experience in itself and two years on I’m still learning every day!)
A blog for entrepreneurs that value life balance
So that’s me. I work hard and play hard. I love life. I love my husband. I love my son. I love my family AND I love my business. I’m busy. I like it that way. I don’t want to settle for anything – be it a relationship, my home, my lifestyle – I’m determined to live the life I desire with intention and I want to inspire other people to do that too.
This is a lifestyle blog with a twist – it’s going to be about all the things that feed the entrepreneurial soul. I’m going to use this space to write about grabbing onto those ideas that hit you ‘bam’ between the eyes (you know, the ones so powerful they are exciting and terrifying at the same time?), about ways to live your life in a less complicated way, and smart – but simple – ways to optimise your life. Think lifestyle blog + food blog + business blog + a little bit of fashion here and there = this blog, right here. I’m creating my own niche.
I’m not a life coach – I won’t be telling you what you should be doing to live a more meaningful life or how to make buckets full of money or selling you an online course. But I will share with you how the systems I’ve developed work for me, how I balance my busy family life with my entrepreneurial career and how my lifestyle influences the way I work.
Stepping into the blogging community is a bit like being the new girl in school – it’s exciting and scary but I’m looking forward to making some fabulous new connections. Thanks for being here.
