Bring your kids to work: Making meaning versus making money

June 2, 2015

Can you make meaning and make money? Lately I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I see so many people that are disengaged from their work. Their work isn’t more fun than fun, and this makes me sad.

Watch this brilliant video by David Frank Gomes with Robert Kaiser about how people’s values change when it’s ‘bring your kids to work day’.

If you don’t have time to watch, it basically says that having your kids around re-attaches you to your values. For values to stick, they need to combine your head and your heart – there’s no point leaving the essence of yourself (your heart) out of your work as there will always be a piece of you missing. And your heart is the most important ingredient – it’s what makes you awesome and powerful.

Making Meaning vs. Making Money: How I do it>>>>

I aim to bring my most authentic ‘ME’ to work every day. This means that my colleagues get to see the real Michelle Carden. I live my life from a place of values. I want to leave behind a rich legacy for my son – he inspires me so much. I love being wide awake right now and I’m enjoying every minute of the ride. I don’t worry about what the critics think of the real me – I put myself out there each and every day.

Being aware and in control is empowering. I pause, take a deep breath and I keep my eyes wide open. I keep myself whole.

You CAN make meaning and make money.

I’d love to hear what you think. Have you watched the video? How did it make you feel?
